How We Are Different

The traditional method of post and beam framing has always been mortise and tenon, dating back 7,000 years.  Its appeal is that it does not require any metal (even nails) so it has a very clean and natural look.  Mortise and tenon is strong and long lasting, but this technique requires advanced woodworking skills and is therefore quite costly.  However, mortise and tenon is not perfect.  When joints are too loose or improperly fitted, the joint will fail and the frame will crack.

Angle bracing and corner brackets are alternatives.  These techniques often require custom fabrication and many people find the look unappealing.  It takes away the clean and timeless beauty of post and beam construction.

The T-REX system is easier, faster and less expensive than other methods. Unique woodworking skills are not required - lowering the cost of construction and enabling use of post and beam in more situations. The final product has structural strength while preserving the sleek look of traditional methods. We like to think of it as “sexy”!
